b'112uraJ.ChiarelliLaSpeech/LanguagePathologist,MACCC/SLPIwouldliketosendmycondolencestobothyouandyourfamilyduringthisdifficulttime.IwashappytohavetheopportunitytospeakofDr.Slavin.WhenIheardthenewsofherpassingmemoriesofhersmilingfacecametomind.Dr.SlavinwasoneofthefirstpeopleImetwhenbeginningmyMastersprograminSpeechandLanguagePathologyatLongIslandUniversity.IwasabitnervousbutDr.Slavinquicklyputmyfearsatease.WhentakingclasseswithDr.SlavinIrecallthewealthofinformationshehadtoshare.Shealsomadeitverycomfortabletoaskquestionswithoutjudgement.EachsemesterIgrewtorespecthergentlebutcommandinglessons.WhenitcametimetocompleteourpracticumclassDr.Slavindisplayedconfidenceinmyskillsduringherobservations.Whenallthehardworkwasoverandwewereatgraduation,Dr.Slavinwasrighttheretocelebrateouraccomplishments!Aftergraduation,IwasveryhonoredtoreceiveacallfromDr.Slavin.SheaskedifIwouldbeinterestedintakingonstudentsatthegraduateandundergraduatelevelatmyplaceofemployment.OnceagainmakingmerealizethatIamnowhercolleague.Thiswentonformanyyears.Ifeelluckyandveryfortunatetohavemetapersonwhocouldmodelthecompassionshehadforspeechpathologywhilemaintainingherpassionofbeingakindandcaringhumanbeing.Myonlyregretwasnotsayingthankyoutoherinperson,butIbelieveourfeelingsweremutual.Theworldhaslostawonderfulwomanthatheavenhasgained.Ihaveenclosedaphotofrommygraduationday.IamtheoneontheendnexttoDr.SlavinLauraJ.ChiarelliSpeech/LanguagePathologist,MACCC/SLP'
