b'20 ASUMMERSWINDMyCousinDiannewasakindgentlesoulIrememberchieflybythesubtleembraceofherwarmandengagingsmile.Alwayswelcoming,alwaysgenuinelyconcernedaboutme,mywifeMarianneandourfamily.Hermother,myAuntCynthia,(Sistertomymother)andfather,SidneySlavin,sharedsimilarcharacteristicsanditiswithaffection,Irememberthemalsointhisway.NotlongpriortoDiannespassing,IhadoccasiontovisittheoldneighborhoodwhereDiannehadlivedgrowingup.ItwasveryclosetowhereIgrewupwithDiannesAuntBeverly;hermothersSister(andmymother)whoDianneenjoyedacloserelationshipwith.Duringthe1960s,herparentswouldbuildarathermagnificentranchhomewhereAuntCynthiaenjoyedhostingmanyfamilycelebrationsduringsomanyoftheJewishHolidaysandothercelebrations!BarMitzvahs,BasMitzvahs,Weddings,CountlessBreakfastsforoutoftownrelatives.AplacewhereduringPassovercelebrations,thefrontdoorwouldbeplacedopentoceremoniouslywelcomeElijahandfortheluckyone,whereadollarmightbefoundunderapieceofMatzah.Itwasaplacewhereseriousconversationscouldbeheardinonecorneroftheroomoverjoyousconversationsandlaughterintheother.AplacetoenjoyapieceofourNanasapplepie;handcraftedwithcareandtastinglikenoother.Ultimately,thiswasaplacewhereAunts,Uncles,Parents,Grandparents,Cousins,SistersandBrothers,wouldgatherandcreatelastingmemories,whichformanyofus,remaintodaylikethatoldhouse,frozenintime.DiannewasanimportantpartofthatbecausetheSavettsideofthefamilyDNAIdaresay,wasundoubtedlythedominantsideandforbetterorworse,residesinallusCousins.Formepersonally,IwouldlooktoDianneandherkindhearteddemeanorandthinkperhapsthattherewashope!NearthetimewhenCousinDiannewasborn,ourgrandfather,J.L.Savett,hadboughtasmallPeninsulaintheAdirondacksonasmalllakeinOldForge,NY(ThirdLakepartoftheFultonChainofLakesintheregion).Nowconsideredhometo4Generationsoffamily,thistoowasaplacewhereGrandparents,Parents,Children,GrandchildrenandGreatgrandchildrenwouldgathertoenjoylifeandoneanotherduringtheshortsummermonths.Inthebeginning,therewere3familieslivingunderoneroofwerefertoasthebigcampwheremealsandchoresweresharedandeveryonegotalong.Overtime,familiesgrewandthingswouldchangebuttherewasoneconstantwhichallmyCousinssharedwithoneanother.ItwastheloveofwarmthoffamilyinwhichourGrandparentsJackandAnnaSavetthadlaidthefoundationinforgingthefamilytreeoflifewhichtheywouldnurtureandgrow.ThisisourHeritageandlikethatoldhouse,itstandsinquietsolitudeofaneragonebybutnotforgotten.'
